Mercari Fees 2026: The 10% Selling Fee Explained
On this page
Mercari fees are simple compared with most marketplaces: since January 2025, Mercari US charges sellers a flat 10% selling fee and no separate payment processing fee. But how you handle shipping changes what you actually keep. This guide explains Mercari fees in 2026, with worked examples.
Mercari fees at a glance
| Fee | Amount |
|---|---|
| Selling fee | 10% of the item price + any shipping the buyer pays |
| Payment processing | None for sellers |
| Direct deposit to your bank | Free |
| Instant Pay | $3 per cash-out |
Mercari introduced this structure on 6 January 2025. Listings created before then and never updated may still have the older fees. Buyers pay a separate Buyer Protection fee at checkout, which does not come out of your earnings.
| Country | Fees |

Example: buyer pays shipping
You sell a $30 video game and the buyer pays $7 for shipping.
- Selling fee: 10% × ($30 + $7) = $3.70
- Your earnings: $30 − $3.70 = $26.30 (the $7 pays for the label)
Example: you offer free shipping
The same game with free shipping at $30:
- Selling fee: 10% × $30 = $3.00
- Earnings before shipping: $27.00
- Minus the $7 label you pay: $20.00
Free shipping cost you $6.30 compared with buyer-paid shipping. If you raise the price to $37 with free shipping, the fee is $3.70 and you keep $26.30: exactly the same as buyer-paid shipping. Free shipping often sells faster, so many sellers raise the price by about the label cost.

Instant Pay
Standard direct deposit to your bank is free. If you want your money immediately, Instant Pay costs $3 per cash-out. On a $120 sale, the 10% fee is $12 and Instant Pay adds $3, leaving $105. Cash out less often, in larger amounts, to keep the $3 fee small.
How Mercari compares
On a $30 item with no shipping, Mercari's 10% fee is $3. Poshmark takes $6 (20%), and Depop in the US takes about $1.44 in processing. Mercari sits in the middle: cheaper than Poshmark, a little more than Depop, with a broad audience for everything from electronics to clothing. Tips for Mercari sellers
- Decide shipping deliberately. Buyer-paid shipping and free shipping with a higher price give similar earnings. Pick whichever sells better for the item.
- Use the right box. Smaller, lighter parcels mean cheaper labels. Our dimensional weight calculator helps.
- Avoid Instant Pay unless you really need the cash today.
- Know your cost. Record what you paid for each item so you can see real profit, not just earnings.
- Update old listings so they move to the current fee structure if it works out cheaper.
The bottom line
Mercari's flat 10% makes fees easy to predict. Decide your shipping approach, avoid unnecessary Instant Pay fees and check each sale in the Mercari fee calculator.
