How to use the Etsy Fee Calculator
- Choose the country where your Etsy payment account (bank) is. Fees depend on where your bank is, not where your buyer lives.
- Type the item price exactly as it appears on the listing, and the shipping price you charge the buyer (0 for free shipping).
- If the order came through an Offsite Ad, pick the rate that applies to your shop. If you are not sure, leave it on "No" for normal orders.
- Add what the item costs you to make and post. The calculator then shows your real profit and margin, not just the fees.
- Open "Fee breakdown" to see each fee separately. Change any number and the results update instantly.
How it is calculated
For one order, Etsy's fees add up like this:
Order total = item price + shipping charged Listing fee = 0.20 USD (charged again each time an item sells) Transaction fee = 6.5% × order total Processing fee = processing % × (order total + any sales tax) + fixed fee Regulatory fee = regulatory % × order total (UK, Canada, India…) Offsite Ads fee = 15% or 12% × order total (only on ad-attributed orders) VAT/GST on fees = your country's rate × all fees above (if Etsy charges it) Profit = order total − Etsy fees − your costs
Two details catch many sellers out. First, the 6.5% transaction fee is charged on shipping as well as the item, so moving cost from the item price into shipping does not avoid it. Second, in the US the payment processing fee is charged on the total the buyer pays, including sales tax, even though Etsy sends that tax straight to the state.

Ways to lower your Etsy fees
- Add your VAT or GST number to Etsy if you are registered. Etsy then stops charging VAT/GST on your fees, which is a 10–20% saving on every fee.
- List in your payment account's currency. Listing in another currency adds a 2.5% currency conversion fee on every sale.
- Price shipping honestly. Because the 6.5% transaction fee and processing fee apply to shipping, "free shipping" with the cost built into the item price costs you exactly the same in fees.
- Watch your Offsite Ads. Shops under USD 10,000 a year can opt out. Above that you cannot, so build the 12% into the price of items that sell through ads.
- Bundle items. The fixed part of the processing fee is charged once per order, so a two-item order costs less in fees than two separate orders.
What this calculator does not include
The one-time shop set-up fee, Etsy Ads (you set that budget yourself), Etsy Plus subscription, postage labels bought on Etsy, currency conversion and deposit fees are left out because they are not charged on every order. If you use any of them, add the amount to "Packaging & other costs".
Frequently asked questions
How much does Etsy take from a sale in 2026?
For a US shop with no Offsite Ad, Etsy takes the 0.20 USD listing fee, 6.5% of the item price plus shipping, and 3% + $0.25 for payment processing. On a $30 order that is $3.30, about 11%. UK shops pay a bit more because processing is 4% + £0.20, there is a 0.48% regulatory operating fee and, without a VAT number, 20% VAT on fees.
Does Etsy charge fees on shipping?
Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee, the payment processing fee, the regulatory operating fee and Offsite Ads fees are all charged on the shipping price as well as the item price. Only the listing fee is a flat amount.
Is the Etsy listing fee charged when an item sells?
Yes. You pay 0.20 USD when you publish a listing, and if the listing has more than one in stock, Etsy automatically renews it for another 0.20 USD each time one sells. The calculator includes one listing fee per order.
What is the Etsy regulatory operating fee?
It is an extra percentage of the item price plus shipping charged to shops in some countries. In 2026 it is 0.48% in the UK (it rose from 0.32% in June 2026), 0.5% in Canada and 0.05% in India. US and Australian shops do not pay it.
Why is my Etsy payout lower than this calculator shows?
Check for Etsy Ads spend, postage labels bought through Etsy, currency conversion (2.5% if you list in a different currency to your bank), refunds, and VAT on fees. All of these are taken from your balance, so they reduce your deposit even though they are not per-order fees.
