How to use the Mercari Fee Calculator

  1. Enter the item price (after any accepted offer).
  2. Choose who pays for shipping and enter the label cost. If the buyer pays, Mercari's 10% also applies to the shipping amount; if you offer free shipping, the label cost comes out of your earnings.
  3. Tick Instant Pay if you plan to cash out instantly. Standard direct deposit is free.
  4. Add your item and packaging costs to see profit and your break-even price.

How it is calculated

Selling fee = 10% × (item price + buyer-paid shipping)
Earnings = item price − selling fee − Instant Pay fee (if used)
Profit = earnings − your costs (− the label, if you pay shipping)

Mercari introduced this simpler structure on 6 January 2025: a flat 10% selling fee and no payment processing fee for sellers. Listings created before that date and never updated keep the old fees.

Worked examples

A $30 game, buyer pays $7 shipping

The 10% fee is charged on $37, so the fee is $3.70.

Buyer pays (item + shipping)$30.00
Selling fee (10% of item + buyer-paid shipping)−$3.70
Your costs (item, shipping, packaging)−$8.00

Fees: $3.70 (12.33%) · Payout: $26.30 · Profit: $18.30 (61% margin)

The same game with free shipping

The fee drops to $3, but the $7 label now comes out of your earnings.

Buyer pays (item + shipping)$30.00
Selling fee (10% of item)−$3.00
Your costs (item, shipping, packaging)−$15.00

Fees: $3.00 (10%) · Payout: $27.00 · Profit: $12.00 (40% margin)

A $120 jacket with Instant Pay

Buyer pays (item + shipping)$120.00
Selling fee (10% of item + buyer-paid shipping)−$12.90
Instant Pay−$3.00
Your costs (item, shipping, packaging)−$40.00

Fees: $15.90 (13.25%) · Payout: $104.10 · Profit: $64.10 (53.42% margin)

Buyer-paid or free shipping?

Free shipping often sells faster, but on Mercari it costs you the full label. If you choose free shipping, raise the item price by roughly the label cost; because the 10% fee then applies to the higher price, the result is almost the same as buyer-paid shipping. Run both options through the calculator to compare.

Frequently asked questions

Mercari US takes a 10% selling fee on the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays. There is no separate payment processing fee for sellers on listings created or updated since 6 January 2025.

Does Mercari charge fees on shipping?

Yes, when the buyer pays for shipping the 10% fee applies to the item price plus that shipping amount. When you offer free shipping, the fee applies to the item price only, but you pay the label.

Instant Pay costs a flat $3 per cash-out. Standard direct deposit to your bank is free.

Does the buyer pay a fee on Mercari?

Is Mercari cheaper than Poshmark?

For most prices, yes: Mercari takes 10% while Poshmark takes 20% (or $2.95 under $15). Each app reaches different buyers, though, so the best choice depends on where your items sell.
