How to use the Product Title Length Checker
- Paste or type your product title.
- Read the table: each marketplace shows its limit and how many characters you have left (or how many to cut).
- Fix any warnings. Amazon rejects some special characters and words repeated more than twice; all marketplaces dislike all-caps and promotional words.
How it is calculated
Characters are counted exactly as marketplaces count them: every letter, number, space and punctuation mark. The limits come from each marketplace's own help pages and are listed in the table below with their sources.
A title that fits is not automatically a good title. Lead with what the item is, then the details shoppers filter by (brand, material, size, colour), and leave out words that do not help someone decide to click.
Worked examples
Before and after: an Etsy and eBay listing
Before: "HANDMADE Mug!!! Ceramic Mug, Coffee Mug, Blue Mug, Perfect Gift, BEST Gift for Her, Free Shipping" (97 characters). Too long for eBay, uses "mug" four times (Amazon allows a word twice at most), shouting capitals, promotional words and exclamation marks.
After: "Handmade Blue Ceramic Coffee Mug, 350 ml Stoneware Cup, Dishwasher Safe" (71 characters). Fits every marketplace in the table, leads with what the item is and keeps the details buyers search for.
Before and after: a resale listing
Before: "Vintage 90s Levi's 501 Jeans Women's Size 28 High Waisted Mom Jeans Light Wash Button Fly Denim Straight Leg" (108 characters). Cut off on Poshmark, Mercari and eBay.
After: "Vintage 90s Levi's 501 Jeans, Women's 28, High Rise, Light Wash" (63 characters). Brand, model, size and the two most-searched details survive on every app.

| Amazon | 200 | No ! $ ? _ { } ^ ¬ ¦ (unless part of the brand) and no word more than twice (except a, an, and, the, for, of …). |
| Poshmark | 80 | Lead with brand and item type; buyers search by brand. |
| Mercari | 80 | Include brand, item, size and condition. |
| Shopify (Google result) | 70 | Shopify cuts the search-engine title around 70 characters; the product name itself can be longer. |

What to put first
Most shoppers scan only the first few words of a title, and many apps cut titles in search results. Put the item type and brand first, then size, material and colour. Save secondary keywords for tags, item specifics and the description, which all marketplaces search too. For your own website's page titles, use the meta title & description checker.
