Etsy is one of the easiest ways for Indian artisans, jewellery makers, textile sellers and digital creators to reach buyers in the US, UK and Europe. But Etsy fees in India work a little differently from other countries: processing costs more, payouts go through Payoneer, and 18% GST is added to every Etsy fee.

This guide explains every fee an Indian shop pays, works through a real example in rupees, and covers the basics of GST and exports.

Worked example: a ₹2,500 hand-block-printed scarf

A buyer in the US orders a scarf listed at ₹2,500 with free shipping. The scarf costs you ₹800 to make.

  • Listing fee: ₹17.50
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% × ₹2,500 = ₹162.50
  • Payment processing: 5% × ₹2,500 + ₹25 = ₹150.00
  • Regulatory operating fee: 0.05% × ₹2,500 = ₹1.25
  • GST at 18% on those fees: ₹59.63

Total Etsy fees: ₹390.88, or 15.6% of the sale. After the ₹800 cost of the scarf you keep about ₹1,309, before the cost of shipping it abroad. Because you offered "free" shipping, the courier cost comes out of that profit, so build it into your price.

How Etsy pays Indian sellers

Etsy pays Indian sellers through Payoneer. Your Etsy balance is sent to your Payoneer account, and from there you withdraw to your Indian bank account in rupees. Payoneer may apply its own conversion or withdrawal charges, so check the rates in your Payoneer account and include them in your costs.

If you list in US dollars, Etsy may charge a 2.5% currency conversion fee when it converts your sales to your payment account currency. Look at the currency settings in Shop Manager before you set your prices.

GST on Etsy fees

Etsy adds 18% GST to the fees it charges sellers in India. On our example that added almost ₹60 to a ₹2,500 sale. If you are registered for GST, speak to your accountant about whether you can claim this GST as an input tax credit. If you are not registered, it is simply part of your cost of selling.

Selling abroad: GST and exports

Most Etsy orders from India go to buyers overseas, which makes them exports of goods. Under GST, exports are zero-rated. Registered exporters usually supply under a Letter of Undertaking (LUT) so they do not have to pay IGST on export sales and then claim a refund. Whether you must register for GST depends on your turnover and how you sell, so read our guide to GST for e-commerce sellers in India and confirm the rules with a GST practitioner.

Keep your courier invoices, Payoneer statements and Etsy monthly statements together. You will need them for GST returns, income tax and any export paperwork.

Pricing tips for Indian Etsy sellers

  1. Price for international buyers. Most of your customers compare you with sellers in the US and Europe. Handmade Indian textiles, jewellery and art often sell well at prices well above local market rates.
  2. Include shipping properly. International courier costs are often the biggest cost on a small order. Either charge it or add it into the price.
  3. Remember the fixed ₹25. On very cheap items, the fixed processing fee and listing fee take a big percentage. Bundles and sets help.
  4. Use the formula, not guesses. Our handmade pricing guide and handmade pricing calculator build fees, materials and your time into one price.

The bottom line

Plan for roughly 15–16% of each sale in Etsy fees and GST, plus Payoneer charges and international shipping. Put your real costs into the Etsy fee calculator with India selected before you set a price, and see Etsy fees explained for the full fee guide.

Fees in this guide were checked against Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy in October 2026. GST information is general; consult a GST practitioner for your business.
