Etsy fees in Canada and Australia follow the same structure as in the US, but with local processing rates, local taxes on fees and, in Canada, a regulatory operating fee. On a typical order, both countries end up paying around 11–13% of the order total.

This guide covers Etsy fees in Canada and Australia side by side, with a worked example for each.

Canadian example: a C$40 mug with C$10 shipping

The order total is C$50, sold to a buyer in Canada:

  • Listing fee: C$0.28
  • Transaction fee: 6.5% × C$50 = C$3.25
  • Processing: 3% × C$50 + C$0.25 = C$1.75
  • Regulatory fee: 0.5% × C$50 = C$0.25
  • 5% GST on fees: C$0.28

Total: C$5.81, or 11.6% of the order. Sell the same mug to a buyer in the US and processing rises to 4%, making the total C$6.33 (12.7%). In provinces with HST, the tax on fees is higher than 5%.

GST and HST on your own sales

The tax Etsy charges on its fees is separate from tax on your sales.

  • Canada: you must register for GST/HST once your taxable sales pass C$30,000 in four consecutive quarters. Etsy collects and remits GST/HST on many orders from Canadian buyers as a marketplace operator.
  • Australia: you must register for GST once your turnover reaches A$75,000 a year. Etsy collects GST on imported low-value goods (A$1,000 or less) sold to Australian consumers.

Ways to reduce Etsy fees

  1. Sell domestically where you can. International orders cost an extra 1% in processing.
  2. List in your own currency to avoid the 2.5% conversion fee.
  3. Register for GST/HST when it makes sense, so you can claim back the tax on Etsy's fees.
  4. Watch Offsite Ads. Shops under $10,000 a year in sales can opt out of the 15% fee.
  5. Bundle items so one order pays one fixed processing fee.

The bottom line

Canadian and Australian Etsy sellers should expect fees of around 11–13% per order once processing and tax on fees are included. Check every price with the Etsy fee calculator and read Etsy fees explained for Offsite Ads and other fees.

Fees in this guide were checked against Etsy's Fees & Payments Policy in October 2026. Tax thresholds were checked against the CRA and ATO websites. This is general information, not tax advice.
