eBay fees in Australia changed in 2026. Most casual sellers can now sell with no final value fee at all, while bigger sellers move onto an eBay Pro plan with category-based rates. All Australian eBay fees include GST.

This guide explains who pays what, with worked examples in Australian dollars.

Free selling: sales up to A$25,000 a year

Sellers without an eBay Pro plan whose total sales were A$25,000 or less over the past 12 months pay:

  • No final value fee on items delivered in Australia.
  • 3% of the total on items delivered overseas.
  • Only optional fees, such as listing upgrades or promoted listings, if you choose them.

Example: a A$80 pair of boots with A$10 postage

Sold to a buyer in Brisbane, the total is A$90 and eBay's fee is A$0. You keep the full A$90. Sent to a buyer in New Zealand, the 3% international fee is A$2.70.

Pro Starter: when you go over A$25,000

Once your sales go over A$25,000 in 12 months, you move to the Pro Starter plan by default. It has no monthly subscription, but every sale pays:

  • 13.4% of the total sale up to A$4,000;
  • 2.5% of the part of a sale above A$4,000;
  • A$0.30 per order.

The same A$90 boots on Pro Starter cost A$12.36 in fees (13.7% of the order).

The paid Pro plans (Basic, Featured and Anchor) have a monthly subscription but lower final value fees. Rates depend on the plan and the category tier:

Tier 4: business, collectables, fashion, media, sporting goods, tech accessories13.09%11.77%11.11%

Paid plans charge A$0.33 per order and 2.75% on the part of a sale above A$4,000. On Pro Basic, the A$90 boots (tier 2) cost A$10.63 in fees instead of A$12.36. Whether a paid plan saves money depends on your monthly volume compared with the subscription cost.

High-value sales

The lower rate above A$4,000 makes a big difference on expensive items. A A$5,000 item on Pro Starter pays 13.4% of A$4,000 (A$536) plus 2.5% of A$1,000 (A$25) plus A$0.30: A$561.30, or 11.2% of the sale.

Fees are charged on the total, including GST

eBay Australia calculates fees on the total amount of the sale, including postage. All the fees above already include GST, so there is nothing extra to add. If you are registered for GST, you can usually claim the GST included in eBay's fees as a credit.

You must register for GST yourself once your business turnover reaches A$75,000 a year. Our GST guide for Australian and Canadian sellers explains how GST affects your prices.

Tips to keep eBay fees down in Australia

  1. Track your 12-month sales. If you are close to A$25,000, plan for the move to Pro Starter in your pricing.
  2. Compare paid Pro plans with Pro Starter once you sell regularly. The lower rates can more than cover the subscription for higher-volume sellers.
  3. Sell domestically where possible to avoid the 3% international fee on free selling.
  4. Price postage realistically. On Pro plans, fees apply to postage too.
  5. Use promoted listings only where the margin allows.

The bottom line

Casual Australian sellers can now sell on eBay for free within Australia, while sellers above A$25,000 a year pay around 10–14% depending on their plan and category. Check your numbers in the eBay fee calculator and see eBay fees explained for other countries.

Fees in this guide were checked against eBay Australia's selling fee pages in October 2026.
