How to use it

  1. Pick a marketplace preset to fill in example fees, then correct them using the rate card in your seller panel – fees differ by category and change often.
  2. Enter your selling price and product cost.
  3. Add the shipping you pay per order and any packaging or other costs.
  4. Enter the GST on your product if your selling price includes GST.
  5. Add your usual return / RTO rate to see a realistic profit, not just the best case.

What the results mean

  • Total marketplace fees – commission (a % of the price) + fixed or closing fee + payment gateway fee.
  • GST on fees – marketplaces charge GST (usually 18%) on their fees. If you are GST registered you can normally claim this back as input tax credit; set it to 0% to see that case.
  • Amount you receive – the settlement after fees and shipping.
  • Net profit per order – what is left after GST on the sale, product cost and other costs, adjusted for returns.
  • Break-even price – the lowest price at which you do not lose money on an order (before returns).

Tips to improve your marketplace profit

  • Check the category-wise commission before you list – a small category change can change fees a lot.
  • Reduce RTO by confirming cash-on-delivery orders and writing clear size charts and product photos.
  • Compare the same product on your own Shopify or WooCommerce store, where the main cost is the payment gateway fee.

Frequently asked questions

Are the preset fees accurate?

They are examples to get you started. Marketplaces update their fees regularly and they vary by category, price band and weight, so always confirm with your seller panel.

Does it include TCS and TDS?

No. TCS and TDS deducted by marketplaces can usually be adjusted against your tax, so they affect cash flow more than profit. Ask your CA how they apply to you.
