What Shopify charges
- Monthly plan – Basic, Grow, Advanced or Plus. The calculator spreads the plan fee across your monthly orders.
- Payment processing – with Shopify Payments you pay a card rate (a percentage plus a fixed fee per order) that gets lower on higher plans.
- Third-party transaction fee – if you use another payment provider instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own percentage on top of that provider’s fees.
- Apps and themes – paid apps and a premium theme are extra monthly or one-off costs. Add them to “Packaging & other costs” per order.
Which Shopify plan is cheapest?
Switch between the plan presets with your real monthly orders. On a low number of orders the Basic plan usually wins; as your sales grow, the lower card rates on higher plans can save more than the extra monthly fee.

Does Shopify take a commission on sales?
Shopify does not take a commission when you use Shopify Payments – you pay the plan fee and card processing. A transaction fee applies only when you use a third-party payment provider.
