Add or remove VAT, GST or sales tax in one click. Choose your country for the common rates – UK VAT, Australian GST, Canadian GST/HST, Indian GST, EU VAT – or type any rate, including your local US sales tax.
How to add tax to a price
Gross price = net price × (1 + tax rate). For example, £100 plus 20% UK VAT is £100 × 1.2 = £120, of which £20 is VAT.
How to remove tax from a price
Net price = gross price ÷ (1 + tax rate). To take VAT out of £120 at 20%, divide by 1.2 to get £100. A common mistake is multiplying by 0.8, which gives £96 and is wrong.
- Australia – GST is 10%, so the GST inside a GST-inclusive price is 1/11 of the total.
- Canada – 5% GST, or a combined HST of 13–15% in participating provinces. Some provinces charge PST on top of GST.
- United States – there is no national sales tax. Rates are set by states and local areas and are usually added at checkout.
- India – GST is charged in slabs; the rate depends on the product’s HSN code.
Frequently asked questions
Is VAT the same as GST?
They work the same way: a tax on consumption collected at each stage of the supply chain. The UK and EU call it VAT; Australia, Canada, India and others call it GST.
Should my shop prices include tax?
In the UK, EU, Australia and India, consumer prices are normally shown including VAT or GST. In the US and Canada, prices are usually shown before tax and tax is added at checkout.
